Thomas Roberts : Irish artist, sculptor and designer - Milan

Born in Belfast 1950 Thomas Roberts, sculptor and designer, developed his range of techniques as an assitant to various artist in Spain and the US in the 1970’s. In the 80’s and 90’s actively worked in the field of interior design and garden landscaping. In 1992 moved to Milan where he opened a studio-workshop, offering a consultancy service to many firms, on projects ranging from packaging design to installations for shows exhibitions and trade fairs.

During this time also travelling extensively throughout India, starting his research and study of ancient indian culture, in particular the concept of devotional art. This influence manifests itself poetically throughout his work.

PERSONAL DESIGN PROJECTS

+ April 1999, during the SALONE DEL MOBILE Milan, presented “ASSI” a collection of sculptured screens and a range of alluminium and wood furniture.

+ May 1999, “ASSI” at Galleria INTERNOS di, Erica Calvi.

+ April 2000, during the SALONE DEL MOBILE Milan, presented “SCREENS”, a collection of sculptured room dividers. The emphasis on decorative modular repetition.

+ In 2002 his interest in decorative elements led him into designing his first collection of bijoux. A collaboration with ETRO between 2005-2007 consolidated his present commitment to jewellery design, producing annualy two collections. In Europe his work have been featured in one man and group exhibitions. Stores that have sold his jewellery include L’ÉCLAIREUR, Paris. L’ÉCLAIREUR, Tokyo. TOMORROWLAND, Tokyo.
